Cities throughout the world balance questions regarding growth and ecological sustainability as they proceed towards development and economic enhancement. This document addresses these issues in one of the first European settlements in the new world, Puerto Plata in the Dominican Republic.

Game Changers for Puerto Plata: Design Scenarios for Urban and Rural Communities is a research initiative supported by Fundación Global de Democracia y Desarrollo (FUNGLODE) and Dominican public and private institutions.

The final report focuses on the growth and development of the province of Puerto Plata in Dominican Republic, with students from Columbia University’s Graduate School of Architecture, Planning and Preservation (GSAPP), along with their academic partners at the Fu Foundation School of Engineering and Applied Sciences (SEAS), developing a series of research projects for the northern region to guide urban development for the next 20 years.
